Tips on How to Book Podcast Interviews
Podcasts are hot right now. They have been for some time and my guess is, they’re not going away any time soon. I love listening to podcasts and get so many business ideas and so much motivation for listening to peers.
But podcasts are also a great opportunity to promote yourself or your business, with thoughtful, educational, inspirational content. If booking interviews on podcasts is one of your goals, I’ve got you! Here are some tips and tricks for booking podcasts.
Research the most appropriate podcasts. “Get me on Joe Rogan’s podcast!” I hear this all the time from clients, wanting a slot on this highly popular podcast. The highly rated podcasts are incredibly difficult to secure and many are booking a full year out for guests. While I would never discourage anyone from trying to book the most popular podcasts, it’s important to have a realistic target list. Research podcasts that align with your niche or expertise. Look for shows with a target audience similar to the one you want to reach. Use directories like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts, or tools like Listen Notes and Podchaser.
Create a media kit. You’ll need a promotional kit to share with the podcast producers to sell yourself and your story. Include a bio, links to any previous podcasts interviews or media appearances,, the topics you can discuss and what makes you an expert in those areas.
Craft a compelling pitch to the talent booker. When reaching out to podcast hosts, your pitch should be short and sweet with an attention-grabbing intro! Explain why you’re a great guest for their specific show. Highlight how your expertise aligns with their podcast's themes and audience.
Reach out. Find the best way to contact the podcast host or producer. This could be via email, social media, or through a contact form on their website.
If you land an appearance,
Prepare for the interview. Once you’ve secured a spot, make sure you’re well-prepared. Research the podcast, practice your key talking points, and ensure you have a good recording setup for a smooth interview.
Promote Your Appearance: Share your podcast episode on your social media channels, website, and other platforms. This helps increase visibility for both you and the podcast.
